汤姆毕业于华盛顿斯波坎贡萨加大学电机工程专业。1980年,正式成为美国合众国际新闻社的专职摄影师,此前,他就职于太平洋西北地区的一家小型日报社。工作期间,他报道过诸多新闻事件,包括航天航空、政治会议、体育赛事,格林纳达入侵事件、古巴生活。在过去的20年里,汤姆曾为消费者杂志、贸易期刊、公司、学校等诸多媒体提供摄影作品。汤姆多拍风土人情,并擅于通过传统新闻摄影挖掘新事物。
He is a graduate of Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, (BS Electrical Engineering). After working for a world’s fair and small daily newspaper in the Pacific Northwest he moved to Miami in 1 980 as a staff photographer for United Press international. For ten years he covered news events as varied the Space Shuttle, political conventions, sporting events, the invasion of Grenada and life inside Cuba. For the past twenty years he has photographed for consumer magazines, trade journals, corporations and universities, specializing in environmental portraits of real people on location and capturing events as they unfold through traditional photojournalism.

Everglades National Park in the state of Florida was created to protect a fragile ecosystem, and is the largest subtropical wildness United States. The Everglades are a network of wetlands and forests fed by a slow river moving, 40 km per day out of Lake Okeechobee, southwest into Florida Bay. The park is the most significant breeding ground for tropical wading birds in North America, contains the largest mangrove ecosystem in the western hemisphere, is home to 36 protected species of mammals, and 50 species of reptiles.
